Ok, so I spent this past weekend (24th and 25th) in Montreal for my first 2 day festival out of the province. It was intense, and I have some war wounds from being in the pit (scrape on my nose that bled and multiple bruises). It. Was. Awesome!
If you've ever been to Montreal, you may notice some very key differences in the way things are ran. 1) In TO (and even in the States) you are padded down and searched for any possible weapon. This could include a studded belt that is too spiky, or even the chains that are part of your outfit and sewn into the fabric. 2) They check your cig pack in TO for joints or any kind of substance that you might be hiding. In Montreal they just let you walk in. I saw ppl with BAGS of weed and just sitting down to roll one up. Even ppl had full on pipes and were not hesitating to blaze. 3) I saw no security patrolling the area for the festival. In TO there was like 200 staff and constantly throwing guys out for smoking weed or even getting into a dispute. Don't get me wrong, I saw my share of overly drunk people (guys and gals) getting thrown out of the park, but that was about the extent they did for the event. 4) In Montreal they did not pick up the garbage until the event was done. Lots of cups and take out boxes and napkins were covering the grounds, making it even more difficult to get a foot hold on an already unstable terrain. 5) I saw lots of titties! That's it, just thought I'd throw that in there. 6) Very polite and respectful people. While I was waiting for transit, I noticed ppl stand in a line to get on the city bus.....In Kitchener I've been nudged out of the way by seniors just so they could get on first. It's these differences that I find make a better society. Let people do what they want and there's nothing to revolt against. I didn't really get to explore the city as I was either sleeping or going to/from the concert. Think of any popular heavy metal band in North America, and they were there. Slayer, Megadeth (there was a fireworks show going on at the same time at another island that you could see from the park I was at - very cool), Fear Factory, Alice Cooper, Rob Zombie, Korn, Hatebreed, Testament, Anvil, Kataklysm, Rob Halford, Five Finger Death Punch (which I was in the pit the whole set hehe), Chimaira, Shadows Fall, Despised Icon, Lamb of God, and so on. It was 2 days of loud, bone crushing, blood boiling, sweaty music that I very much enjoyed being a part of. As I was reviewing some of the photos of the festival, I noticed this site linked in their facebook page. http://headbangroulette.com/ I think it's cute. Not just humans can headbang... I am so going next year. They have already secured the dates for it.

Aww. I planned this trip for like 2 months. Got the last ticket on the wed before the weekend.....I was a lil stressed but it all worked out. I really liked the sets with props and costume changes (Megadeth, Korn, Rob Zombie, Alice Cooper).
Megadeth also played a free show at 1:30am in a bar downtown. It was free to anyone holding the festival's ticket, so first come first get in. All you had to do was donate for hungry kids and they'd let you in. I saw pic of it and the bar was the size of the Docks in TO (maybe like 1200 max people). I am definitely doing it again. It was even better than Ozzfest.
